Once a year we hold an Open Day for the Community. Its a chance for us to show you what we do and how we work to help keep you safe … and a chance for you to learn how you can help us by properly preparing your property and also by looking after your neighbours.

We’ll be there from 10.00am to 2.00 pm. Here’s an overview of the day:

How to Find Us

The Fire Shed is located at the end of Stanley Avenue beside Powell Park. Turn into Bellbird Avenue from Bells Line of Road and then turn right into Stanley Avenue. There’s lots of parking.

What’s On?

We’ve got two Fire Trucks to have a look at. The big one has a monitor on the front which can be operated from inside the cabin and even has a fridge to keep drinks cool. We’ll show you and the kids through the trucks and explain what everything does.

We’ve got a couple of different types of radios with one set up for for communication between the crews on the fireground. We’ll explain how they all work.

We’ll be doing presentations every half hour on the half hour covering the fire outlook for this and coming seasons, our fire history, how we defend our community, your fire plan and whether to stay or go, and the new fire danger system. We also cover how to prepare your place.

And after the presentation we’ll have firefighters present who can help you and discuss your own fire plans and how to implement them.

It’s a good idea to get your own fire pump. We’ll show you how they work:

And we’ve got lots of handouts which contain heaps of good advice – and particularly the 4 step planners for doing your own fire plan:

And some great stuff for the kids!

And if you live on a farm:

And if you get there early you can get one of the last copies of our book “Good Fire, Bad Fire” which tells the 70 year history of fire in the district and all the lessons we have learnt along the way.

And yes .. we’ll have the kettle on!
