The Brigade enjoyed meeting our new District Manager for the Hawkesbury, Superintendent Jonathon Hill, at our brigade meeting at the beginning of October.

He is very much one of us having started his firefighting career as a volunteer, and he quickly understood many of the unique challenges we face in keeping our community safe at Kurrajong Heights.

We asked him for some background on himself to share with the community and this is what we received:

“Jonathon has an extensive background in the RFS as a volunteer dating back to 2003 within the Cumberland District. Over the years, Jonathon attended numerous campaign fires, local incidents and was involved extensively in training and assessment. Jonathon would continue and eventually become a Group Officer in the Cumberland District and during this time deployed to numerous Section 44’s undertaking IMT roles including Divisional Commander and Operations roles.

The RFS holds a special place in Jonathon’s professional and personal journey and in 2021 obtained a full-time role with the NSW RFS. Jonathon has worked in Area Command Western at Cowra as a Capability manager involved in the capability and preparedness space and acted as the Superintendent for 2 years in Shoalhaven.

Jonathon’s background external to the RFS is with NSW Police undertaking various roles around New South Wales and working for the Australian Public Service in similar capacity.

Jonathon holds numerous qualifications and University education around Emergency Management, Incident Control and Leadership. Jonathon grew up in Newcastle however, when he joined the NSW Police, he has moved around NSW with work commitments living in places such as Sydney, Cowra, Dubbo, Bourke and Nowra”.

Jonathon replaces Karen Hodges who served the Hawkesbury for an amazing 35 years. He says he’s here for the long term but is not setting out to emulate Karen’s amazing tenure!

Karen has taken up a new position as Deputy Chief Officer of the South Eastern Region of the Queensland RFS.
